Ontario Soccer has introduced a temporary adjustment to Grassroots Standards to help districts manage the significant weather‑related disruptions experienced throughout the outdoor season. Wildfire smoke, poor air quality, and prolonged periods of extreme heat have resulted in repeated cancellations across festivals and league programming, making it challenging to maintain safe, consistent playing opportunities for participants.
To support districts in recovering these lost games while continuing to prioritize player welfare, Canada Soccer has approved a short‑term deviation process. This flexibility allows districts to submit adjusted schedules that permit two games per week, using either a weekend‑plus‑weekday format or a weekday‑plus‑weekend format depending on their standard play structure. As part of this approach, the additional match is recommended to replace one training session during that week to help balance player workload and support volunteer coaches.
Districts wishing to use this temporary adjustment must submit their original and revised schedules for review. Approvals will consider local conditions, scheduling impacts, and participant safety.
