Congratulations to Whitecaps London for hosting another fantastic year of the 'Shine the Light' Girls Soccer Tournament. Not only did this event give back to our community, but it also provided an opportunity for young feamloe players to hear an important message from the London Abused Women's Centre.
A really amazing aspect of this tournament is that players off the field had the opportunity to speak with Gail, a representative from the Centre. In her messaging she spoke about abouse, sexual expolitation and trafficking. She focused on how young females can identify signs and risks and how to access supports to assist when needed.
In addition to the outstanding play on the field, and the messages off the field, the generosity of the teams and families was overwhelming. This year saw an unprecedented amount of donations - more than the tournament has ever received before! A HUGE thank you from the Whitecaps and the Centre to everyone who contributed.
The following essential items were donated:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Deodorant
- Menstrual Products
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Sunscreen
- Body Wash
- Skin Care Products
- Body Lotion
- Hair Care Products
These contributions go a long way in supporting women in crisis and speak volumes about the hear of this soccer community. The Shine the Light campaign works year-round to raise awareness of violence against women and to support survivors. Purple - its signature colour - stands as a symbol of courage and a unified fight to end woman abuse.
Congratulations to the 2025 Shine the Light Champions!
