EMSA Announcement RE: MLHU measurements
October 22, 2020

Announcement

The Elgin Middlesex Soccer (EMSA) Association Board in response to the new Health measures announced by the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) on October 21, 2020 is planning to meet with the local Health Unit as soon as possible to get a better understanding of the impact of these changes on the provision of soccer activities within the District.

EMSA is currently developing a Covid-19 response committee to improve membership adherence and knowledge of provincial regulations and local health mandates surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic. In doing so, the goal of the committee is to ensure that all our members will continue to safely provide soccer activities in our community. More details about this committee will be released in the near future.

We are planning to consult with the MLHU to ensure the Ontario Soccer Return to Play Guidelines align with the new measures. We want to ensure there is consistency and a clear message provided to our membership regarding what is permitted.

The newly released measurements may cause league cancellations and training limitations. Understanding that these are not normal times, we are concerned how these new restrictions will impact the physical/emotional well-being of players, the strain of members who offer programming and the overall development of soccer in our area. We are working to initiate joint discussions with the MLHU, Ontario Soccer and the City of London, to ensure that the impact of the new measures will be minimized.

EMSA also recognizes that our District is geographically large and soccer activities are under the jurisdiction of more than the Middlesex London Health Unit.  Members who are offering soccer activities outside of Middlesex London are reminded to consult with their local Health Unit before beginning their planned activities.

We will release more information to the District as it becomes available.
